Every 1’s a Winner

Hot Chocolate’s “Every 1’s a Winner” already knows how to own a dance floor. Byron’s Brigades wisely avoid arguing with the groove. They change the vehicle instead.

This is the band’s sixth released cover, following versions of songs including Del Shannon’s “Runaway” and Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game.” That history matters because cover songs are a particular craft: preserve too much and you have karaoke; change everything and the song loses the reason anyone cared. Recorded at Third Eye Music Studio, this version keeps the original’s infectious pulse while giving the instrumentation a firmer contemporary-rock edge.

The new argument is not that disco needed rescuing. It is that the song’s engine can pull a different body. The beat still invites movement, the central riff still carries recognition, and the band’s tighter, more forceful delivery gives the track renewed live-room utility.

Put it in a club and the groove remains intact. Put it in a rock set and it no longer feels like a novelty detour. That is the win.

All hail disco—but give the cover band some credit for knowing what not to disturb. Byron’s Brigades keep the original signal strong, add their own amplification, and send “Every 1’s a Winner” back onto the floor with a new set of shoes.
